What I do
Five areas of work, all aimed at getting the numbers and the finance function in good order. Each engagement is scoped before it starts.
01
Finance readiness and audit support
Reviewing the finance function and preparing for a smooth audit.
Talk about thisWhen this is useful
Useful when an audit is approaching, when the business has grown faster than its controls, or when lenders and investors want assurance over the numbers.
What it involves
- Financial hygiene check: a structured review of the finance function, controls, close process and reporting to find weaknesses before they become problems.
- Pre-audit review: preparation covering balances, reconciliations, disclosures and working papers.
- Support through audits: acting as a point of contact between the company and its auditors.
- Non-statutory reviews and agreed-upon procedures for owners, lenders and investors where no statutory audit is required.
02
Due diligence
Financial and operational diligence for buyers, sellers and investors.
Talk about thisWhen this is useful
Useful ahead of an acquisition, a sale or an investment round, when a clear view of the numbers and the finance function behind them is needed.
What it involves
- Financial due diligence: quality of earnings, net debt and working capital analysis, for buyers, sellers and investors.
- Operational due diligence: review of processes, systems, controls and people in the finance function and related operations.
03
Planning and modelling
Budgets, forecasts and financial models that people can rely on.
Talk about thisWhen this is useful
Useful when the business needs a budget it can manage against, a forecast for a board or a lender, or a model for a decision or a raise.
What it involves
- Budgeting and forecasting: building and improving budgets, rolling forecasts and management reporting.
- Modelling support: building new financial models for decisions, transactions and fundraising.
- Model review: checking existing models for integrity, logic and usability.
04
Accounting
Technical accounting under UK GAAP and IFRS, plus day-to-day finance support.
Talk about thisWhen this is useful
Useful when a transaction raises accounting questions, when group reporting needs to be right, or when the business needs support before it can justify a full in-house team.
What it involves
- Technical accounting: UK GAAP and IFRS accounting policy questions, complex transactions, group reporting and consolidation.
- Bookkeeping and finance function support: day-to-day accounting, month-end close and reporting for companies that do not yet need a full in-house team.
When this is useful
Useful when current systems no longer support the business, or when the team wants to use AI in finance without losing control of data and controls.
What it involves
- ERP implementation support: finance-led requirements, process design, testing, data migration and controls.
- AI implementation in finance: identifying practical use cases, assessing data and controls readiness, and helping teams adopt tools in a controlled way.
This work is led from the finance side. It does not replace the software vendor or the technical implementer.
